Upholstery

The furniture collection by Richard Herzog Upholstery is a selection of the finest 18th century reproductions. Each design carries the signature of fine woodworking and upholstery craftsmanship.

The hardwood frames are mortise and tenon to meet the highest specifications. Primary woods such as Mahogany, Walnut, and Cherry will have a finely hand rubbed finish or can be distressed for an antique finish.

Although springs were not used in the 18th century, we have made an exception for comfort and longevity. However, all other methods of upholstery are exactly reproduced. Our construction features hand tied coil springs which are then layered with horse hair and covered in muslin. Along with the seat, backs and arms are always done in hair and muslin. Tacks are used for webbing muslin and fabric for strength and preservation of the frame. All fabrics are cut, tailored and expertly applied. Our meticulous handstitched seams finish the job in an old world fashion.

In addition to the furniture available in our line, new custom orders are readily accepted. We have available a variety of fabric ranging from 18th century silk documents and adaptation to prints, homespuns and leathers.
